  16. This program configures a LASERMATRIX Printer Driver
  17. to match your printer.

  23. LASERMATRIX
  24.  Printer Driver works with certain
  25. types of bit-mapped graphics capable printers.
  26. The following pages will ask you for certain
  27. parameters and ASCII escape code sequences that
  28. are unique for your printer.
  29. For each entry, consult your printer's manual for the 
  30. proper codes to use.  If your printer is not capable
  31. of a listed function (other than NLQ printing) then the
  32. driver will not work on your printer.
  33. All printer escape codes are ASCII characters entered
  34. as DECIMAL numbers, seperated by commas.  Press
  35. <RETURN> after entering a code sequence.
  36. Note:
  37.  - ASCII codes range from 0 to 255
  38.  - No characters other than numbers and commas
  39.    are allowed
  40.  - Each printer function is initiated by a sequence
  41.    of no more than 16 ASCII codes
  42. Please insert a disk containing a

  53.  normally sends 80 8-dot wide cards to the
  54. printer.  Some printers have different capabilities for
  55. printing width in normal density mode (60, 72, 80
  56. dots/inch density).  Please enter your printer's width
  57. (in 8-dot cards) for 
  58. NORMAL
  59.  density printing.

  84.  Driver uses your printer's highest
  85. print density.  The driver's interpolation routines
  86. require that the high density mode be a multiple of
  87. 2 or 3 times the printer's normal density, usually
  88. 60, 72, or 80 dots/inch.
  89. Examine the print density capabilities in your printer's
  90. manual and choose your printer's highest density
  91. that is a multiple of the normal low-density
  92. capability...
  93. Select the print density multiple below.
  94. For example:
  95.       60 dpi/120 dpi:  DOUBLE
  96.       72 dpi/144 dpi:  DOUBLE
  97.       80 dpi/240 dpi:  TRIPLE
  98. Combinations such as 72/240 (TRIPLE) will work, but
  99. will have a different width-to-height ratio than the
  100. screen.

  103. Enter the sequence of escape codes to initialize
  104. your printer.
  105. This should include:
  106.  - Code to reset the printer to a power-on state
  107.  - Code to set the normal line feed amount to 
  108.    the height of JUST the 8-row printhead.  On
  109.    many printers, this amount is 7/72 inches
  110. Some printers produce better output if set to
  111. unidirectional printing.  Include codes for this
  112. if desired:

  116.   - ASCII codes range from 0 to 255

  123. Enter the escape code sequence to print a line of
  124. dot graphics output using the HIGHEST DENSITY
  125. mode selected.  This sequence should tell the printer
  126. to expect '
  127. ' 8-dot vertical graphics bytes to follow,
  128. Where:

  130. X = 8 * C * D
  131.  is the number of cards selected for printer width,
  132.  is the density multiple selected, 2 or 3.
  133. Enter the escape code sequence to send a
  134. HALF-DOT-LINE line feed command to the printer.
  135. This should be the printer's smallest available
  136. line feed amount (near 1/120 inch or less):
  137. Enter the escape code sequence to initialize the
  138. printer for ASCII printing.
  139. This is typically a reset to the power-on state, and,
  140. if desired, changes to the default printer font, pitch,
  141. and line feed settings:
  142. Does your printer have an internal Near-Letter-
  143. Quality (NLQ) mode available?
  144. Enter the escape code sequence to initialize the
  145. printer's NLQ printing mode:
  146. Select '
  147. ' to write the new driver, or
  148. PREVIOUS
  149. ' to change parameters:

  153. Use 'Select Printer' to choose the new driver before
  154. printing.
